Wah wah wee wah - What do we have here, my first EVER pedal. For the effect that started it all this lil guy has been under-utilised for the last few years. Born as a Dunlop CryBaby GCB-95, this feller got me through all my high school Jimmy Page-mimicking jam sessions. Now in my mad-scientist era I just wanted a little more… Hacking open the pedal, I’ve removed and replaced MANY of the components in the circuit.
Now adjustable is the volume, gain, resonance and sweep range through the colourful knobs. Hidden inside is a toggle switch that changes the voicing of the wah making it more ‘vocal’ sounding. Lastly I removed the buffered bypass, replacing it with a true bypass system, giving the pedal just a bit more clarity and a cute pink LED. What’s left is a sweet wah that gets a lot more play and a lot less closet time.
